It’s important for people to have a range of treatment options and to access the medication that works best for them.

As well as oestrogen patches, hormone therapy is available in different forms, including gels, vaginal treatments, tablets, and intrauterine devices – with different types suiting different people’s needs.

However, global supply issues remain. Demand for oestrogen patches continues to rise in Aotearoa and internationally, and manufacturers have been unable to keep up with the growing need.

Pharmac’s decision is an important step for menopause care in Aotearoa. And we’re excited to see more certainty around the supply of hormone therapy.
