What happens in a Menopause Wellbeing appointment?

All our appointments are online. Your first appointment will be 45 minutes long. You'll see the doctor or nurse practitioner you booked with. They'll discuss your physical symptoms and other relevant medical conditions, as well as your psychological wellbeing and any concerns you may have, and come up with a treatment plan tailored to you.

Find out what to expect

Who is my appointment with?

Your appointment will be with a nurse practitioner or doctor. All our staff are specialised in sexual and reproductive health and menopause – they also work for Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa, where we've been providing expert women's health care since 1936.

You can choose who you book with in the online booking system. The same clinician will see you for all of your follow-up appointments, so you have continuity of care.

Can I get hormone therapy (HRT) straight away?

Hormone therapy (HRT) is the most effective treatment for menopause. But it's not appropriate for everyone. And sometimes we'll need to do further testing or an in-person procedure before we can give you a prescription for medication. This means we can't guarantee you'll get HRT – or that you'll get it straight away.

What does the cost of my appointment cover?

Menopause Wellbeing is a private clinic that doesn't receive government funding. But we're not for-profit. Proceeds from Menopause Wellbeing help fund the vital work of Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa. This means by coming to use for menopause treatment, you're enabling us to promote health, advance education, and benefit the community.

About Menopause Wellbeing

Appointment types

We offer three appointment types. All appointments are virtual.

Our appointments are longer than you might be used to. This means we can go into detail and tailor our advice and treatment plans to your needs.

Initial appointment: $350

Your first appointment with us will be 45 minutes long. We’ll discuss your menopause stage, symptoms, and treatment options.

At this initial appointment, you may be prescribed some form of menopause treatment, including but not limited to hormone therapy, if appropriate.

As well as recent BMI and blood pressure readings, it’s helpful for you to have details of your medical conditions and any medications you're taking. This should include any herbal treatments or supplements. Find out more about what to prepare for your appointment

Phone follow-up: free

We’ll book a five minute follow-up six to eight weeks after your initial appointment. At this follow-up, we’ll discuss your medications and any side effects and may tweak your dosage.

Full follow-up: $180

Your first 20-minute follow-up session will be held three months after your initial appointment. We’ll talk about your symptoms and treatment plan, and make any changes needed.

All subsequent appointments with us will be full follow-up appointments.

Repeat prescriptions: $35

If you’re eligible, you can request repeat prescriptions through our online booking system.

If you’ve had a change in medical or medication history, or have developed a new allergy to medications, you’ll need to give us a call.
